In the several weeks since I was rear-ended coming home, the guy who wanted
to pay himself for the repairs to avoid the insurance cost has been less
then speedy getting me the money.
First it was “I’ll mail it out today.”
A week later “Sorry, I was on vacation then and didn’t have my checkbook.”
A week later “I’m home now and will send it today.”
6 days after that “I’m putting it in the mail now.”

It did show up late in the day yesterday.
Not being very trusting of a person who doesn’t seem to know if he is on
vacation or not, I was worried about just depositing my check and finding
there had been a “mistake” and there weren’t funds or the check had been
stopped.

Since he lives in the town where I work, and the bank he uses is in the
same town, at lunch today I drove over there and asked for the cash
directly out of his account.
I had to show three forms of ID and the teller needed to ask her manager.
But, the money was handed over.  (I did have some worry when she looked at
the check, me, the computer screen and frowned for a long while.  Don’t
know what that was about.)

Just in case, I held off letting him know I had the check until I was back
with the cash.  I hope there were no “surprises” planned.  But, with the
cash in my pocket there isn’t much of a surprise to be had.

Since I already paid for the repairs a few weeks ago all this does is repay
me for them.
But, I’m still glad to get it.

if there's an overdraft on the account it's his own darn fault!

Yay! I'm glad it worked out!

In general, I have found that people who want to finesse the system usually also want to avoid paying, so I am pretty intolerant of such. I'm so glad that this worked out OK!
