Our apartment has three big sliding glass doors. One in our bedroom,
living room and kitchen.
The first year we lived there we had a few big parties with lots of people.
There was one where a lot of my wife’s coworkers showed up for the party.
My wife and one of her coworkers were visiting in the kitchen when her
coworker decided to step outside for a cigarette. She pulled open the big
glass door and grabbed her lighter.
“You can’t go out there,” my wife said.
“I’m just going for a smoke,” her friend said. “I’ll be right back.”
“You can’t go out there,” my wife said again, grabbing her arm to stop her.
“She’s just going for a smoke,” another friend said. “Give her a break.”
“There is no balcony,” my wife said.
Her two friends stopped and looked out the door they were trying to get
through and realized all that was there was a 2 ½ story drop to the ground.
They went out the living room door, which does have a balcony, for their
smoke.
