Food of the gods
Jul. 9th, 2010 03:37 pmLast night my wife and I drove up to the Pebody Essex Museum in Salem, MA.
I don’t like going to Salem. I generally don’t like the vibe of the place
in general. But, I have to admit, one of my biggest problems with it is
getting there.

If there is a time it is easy, I haven’t found it.
But, we did get there. And as much as I don’t like the city, I do like the
museum.

We walked through the Maya exhibit, which is very nice, but does not allow
photos. My favorite thing I wanted to take a photo of was their projector
that was supposed to be projecting moving clouds on one wall. It had
jammed and across the ceiling was “Quicktime failure! Do you want to
restart?” It would have been a great photo, but it was not to be.
They had set up about a dozen tables for guests.

We sat at a random table, and went for the seats where we could see the
speakers without having to turn around in our chairs.
My wife got a special bonus under her plate:

My wife, the introvert, had to make the chocolate drink for everyone else
at the table and was in charge of using the mixing scepter, and adding in
the ingredients.

She did a pretty good job and everyone seemed to enjoy their drink.

Other tables did not do as well and had to come steal ingredients from our
table to make their drinks better.
They brought out various bits of food through the night and a wide array of
chocolate.

I liked the Taza stuff a lot. My wife had bought me some for my birthday
last year, so I was already experienced with the pepper flavored chocolate.
Others were more surprised by it then I was.
Throughout the night descriptions of what we were eating, drinking and how
it was made were given by one of the museum curators and one of the
founders of Taza.

Although I passed the beer to my wife, I got more than enough chocolate
even for me. And, that’s saying something.
It was a good time and I’m glad we went. Going home at 10:00 at night we
got stuck in 2 traffic jams. So, I still hate going to Salem, even if I
like the museum and the events it holds. But, I’m still glad we went.

Date: 2010-07-09 09:17 pm (UTC)Salem..Yeah, driving to it is best done at 7AM on a Saturday morning.
But, driving back home late on 128 from 8PM to 5 AM you will encounter 4 sections of heavy construction/paving. Tuesday coming back from Drill we have been taking an alternate route from route 2 to 128, because of Winter Street bridge construction traffic. But even getting on 128 from route 20, we got denied access to the Pike off 128, then route 30 was closed, and 16 didn't look open but apparently it was. We finally got down to the route 9 exit and just made our way back to the Pike from there. Very. Irritating.
Sorry you got screwed with morning rush hour and then late nite construction, as if it was afternoon rush hour, but darker. I hope they finish up soon, it's gotten old. I understand and appreciate the need to re-pave roads, and it's been 8-9 years since the last major re-paving, but still, it seems to take a whole lot longer than they claim it will.
