My wife and I are going to be in KY soon.
I here there is a ren faire there we should stop in and see.
And, there is a museum there we want to see. (The Frazier)
That would probably still leave a day or so in the area.
Any suggestions?

Um, it's a big state, which part are you visiting? (If ya don't know, my hometown is Lexington)

We're flying into Louisville, which is where the museum is, and close to the faire in Eminence.

If it were me in Louisville, I'd possibly go to the Kentucky Derby racetrack, the Louisville Slugger Baseball bat factory (tours & museum), and possibly the zoo, as well as the museums and caves.

I am told no slugger museums.
The train one sounded good...

My wife wondered how mammoth the caves really are...
She doesn't want to have to crawl through anywhere.

Mammoth. The only way you're going to be crawling in those caves is if you schedule a true spelunking trip. The public tours are all in the HUGE caverns. Promise.

They also have a Kentucky Down Under zoo-ish sort of thing and a pile of other things to do if you make the trip. Mammoth Cave really is a worthwhile trip if you like caves.

There's also this GREAT tea shop between Louisville and Eminence. LOL!

You can't go wrong with Frazier and if you guys don't already know some of their interpreters you SHOULD, they're very good.

If you're up for roaming the area Distillery Tours are actually pretty unique to our area. Especially because so many of them are in dry counties, which just fascinates me in a weird way.

There are also a few great historic homes with mini-museums in the area: Locust Grove, Farnsley-Morman being the two I know best, both actually IN Louisville but on HUGE properties.

We heard they were moving and may not be open...

They're HUGE. I don't remember any tight squeezy places when I vistied. And really scarily dark when they turn out the lights.

They really are mammoth. No crawling required, and I don't think there was really even much watching your head required. They are quite impressive caves.

My wife was afraid they may be named for a mammoth that crawled in there to die or something. Notthat I wouldn't want to see that too...

I'll be another vote for the Mammoth Caves. There's actually a *bunch* of them, so many that you choose which tour to take and you might have to ride the little park shuttle to get to one of the farther-out places.

If you're lucky you'll get the tour guide whose family owned the place for generations--well, worked it as slaves and later on owned it--before the feds up and Eminent Domained the site from them. He tells the story like I'd tell you about losing a dime, which might be the most remarkable thing of all.
