My wife headed out for her trip today. I’m sure she will have a good time
and I am sad I am not able to go with her.
But, she gets 4 weeks of vacation time a year. I get 2, and since I have
only been an official employee for 2 months, I don’t even get to use mine
until the fall at best.
Of course, over the last 24 years my wife has switched jobs half as often
as I have, so almost always ends up with more vacation time then me.
I’ve only worked at 2 places where I managed to get up to 3 weeks a year.
In both cases I was laid off less then a year after I reached that point.
I know if I had remained a consultant, I could have taken any time off I
wanted. But then I wouldn’t get paid and I like being paid.
So I think this way is for the best. But, it is still sad when I don’t get
to go on trips with my wife.
Disclaimer: I am not in any way trying to invite myself along on this or
any other trip to which I have not been, or will not be invited. I am not
in any way fishing for an invitation or anything along those lines. I am
not in any way trying to complain about my wife getting to take nice trips
and visit her friends. I do not begrudge her these trips, or other things
she does.
I am merely sad that I don’t get to do more fun things together with my
wife.

Date: 2010-06-01 05:07 pm (UTC)My wife also seems to think there are some foods I can cook while she is away I can not when she is there. Unlike your wife, I am not banned from cooking anything, so it isn't a problem for me. (Ane, I am not sure I want you cooking fish in my home either...)

Date: 2010-06-04 01:16 am (UTC)Unfortunately, his parents seem to think that since he has vacation time, he's obligated to spend it all visiting THEM. Argh.
ETA: Us both going isn't really an option, because of the Beasts. probably. Though Snikki could probably be kenneled, and we could get a pet-sitter to deal with the cats and the mail and newspapers, potentially...
