We drove out to Gloucester today to see JT’s 1 man show of the Christmas Carol. I wasn’t sure about traffic due to the season and the number of shopping intensive areas we drove through. But, we got there with lots of extra time.
We had lunch at a nice place right on the water. Holly and I both read the menu item she ordered as “steak and lobster pie”. We both wondered how they could combine the two in a pie, and what it would be like.
It turns out it was steak with a lobster pie next to it. Not the same. She still seemed to like it, but it wasn’t the unique thing we had been expecting.
After lunch there was still more than an hour to the show, so we walked up and down the streets of the town. We mostly window shopped, but I did go into a bookstore and buy some books for the Godkids.

The play itself was VERY good. JT does an amazing job of doing dozens of characters in a way that makes them all different, recognizable, and interesting.
The story itself was one I heard over, and over and over again growing up. It was basically the only holiday thing my sister and father ever agreed upon. So, each Christmas we watched every version of it available.
Because of that, it’s been a long time since I’ve really felt an emotional connection to the story.
But, I did today.
The plot of people changing their destiny for the better didn’t hurt with what’s been going on.
But, seeing JT act it out in front of us really made me connect with it in a way I haven’t since I was about 7.
That was nice.

So, over all, a good day.
My fears remain. My worries aren’t gone.
But, a good day is still a good day.
And, I’m happy to have one.

I am so honored that you came to see it, and that it touched you. It gets me every year.

I remain amazed at how many characters you can do and keep them distinct.
