It was Friday and I still don’t have a job, so off to the house of ick for me again.
The good news, it was a beautiful fall day:

The bad news, I resented going.
I understand that while my mother in law was getting her eyes operated on the state suspended her license.
So, we agreed to help her get food out there where she lives while her eyes got fixed. The fact this took 16 months when it was planned to take about 4 isn’t her fault, it’s the medical establishment that required months of extra tests before going forward.
Last week I brought here a lot of groceries and didn’t really mind. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I liked it, but I didn’t mind.

This week, it was to pick up her prescriptions from the pharmacy 5 miles from where she lives.
So, I had to drive the 30 miles to get her, drive back 5, drive back 5 more, then 30 home.
Why? Her car was in the shop so her boyfriend couldn’t go get it.
But, I think they could have picked up her prescription Wednesday when getting the car dropped off if they had put a bit more thought into it.
And, I resent that they didn’t.

Of course, since I was coming out anyhow, I was asked to bring them more ice cream and cat food.

The real sad part was I didn’t have anything better to do today. So, I went.
She had really wanted my wife to do this run, so wasn’t all that happy to see me. So, she sent her boyfriend to pick up the prescription for her.

As I said, I don’t mind helping her when she really needs it. But, she chose to live an hour west of us. In the 5 times she’s moved over the last 25 years, it has been farther west each time. If she stayed where she started, she’d only be a 10 minute drive from here, and I’d be a lot less unhappy about these trips.
Or, in all the months we’ve been doing this, if she even once gave us something for the gas we use going out and back.

Her “I’m your mother and if you don’t do this you’re a bad daughter” stuff she pulls on my wife also pisses me off a lot.
She is never that direct. And, does her best not to do it when I’m in listening distance. But, my ears are better then she thinks.
My wife has been a far better daughter to her then she was mother to my wife.
But, I digress.

On the way home they were cutting slots into the road to put in reflectors.

I’ve never seen them doing that before and it took me a while to figure out what it was.

I had to stop by Hoops and get some more stuff for tomorrow. I had the choice of 30 miles of back road or 40 miles of highway.

When I got back to Shrewsbury, I found the set up for the fall festival going on at the center of town.

At some point I’ll try and get a closer look to the stuff.

Just before getting home I saw some very strange school bus behavior. I know it is illegal to pass them when they’re loading and unloading students. But, this was the first time I ever saw a bus do it when in the middle of an intersection to block two roads.

I guess that’s safer for the kids, but still strange.

The good news on the job front is the place that called me Wednesday set up an actual interview with me next Thursday. Hopefully it will work out!
