I haven’t been feeling well this week. I’ve hoped it wasn’t that whole H1N1 stuff. After all, [livejournal.com profile] gilden had it and I talked with him on the phone. Who knows how contagious it is?
But, despite what the pollen count says it is, the build up on my windshield makes me think it isn’t any virus.

Thursday was apparently “Bad Driver Day” in Massachusetts. And, apparently on BDD if you’ve got handicapped tags you not only don’t have to use your turn signals, but don’t even have to check that lanes are free before you move into them.
Or, maybe he thought the little car on the back of his big car was watching out for him?

But, I got up to Tom and Brett’s new place to help them paint and move an old cast iron stove.

One of the surprising things about their new house is it appears to be selling off most of 1972 for $500.
Granted it is only 350 out of 365 days, but two weeks off is pretty standard, as it breaking it into 4 seasons.

I’m not sure. $500 isn’t much for a whole year. But, 1972? It wasn’t my favorite.
It is somewhat weird as that was the year I started 4th grade and someone asked me last weekend what I remembered from 4th grade. So, it all makes a weird sort of sense.
But, I don’t have and extra $500 these days, so I think I’ll pass.

In the evening my wife and I headed back to Holy Cross for our weekly Capoeira class.

The class doesn’t seem to have a big priority for room on campus. Each week it is going to be held in a different room. Several weeks there is no room and the class won’t be held.
I couldn’t remember which room it should be last night.
The first one we tired had a great view of sunset in Worcester, but wasn’t set up for what we do in the class.

We found the right room. The view wasn’t as good, but it had much more room for us.

That tray rack came up and whacked my foot while doing some exercises and really hurt my toes. I’m maintaining I didn’t kick it accidently, but it leapt out at me.

They tried to make us do hand stands again. That’s just not happening for me. The instructor seemed to think it was a “fear of being upside down” for those of us who didn’t do it. I think it is more a realistic assessment of my weight and upper arm strength.
It is very intense. To say it is good exercise is to say the stress test I took a couple of years ago was too.
The first week I thought I could keep up with about 80% of the instruction. This week, it was more like 70%. It’s a 7 week class, so by the last one I’ll be about 10%. But, hopefully, it will still be above 0...

Wednesday I got a call from one of my random resumes into the dark saying they did have an opening. I called him back yesterday and got his voicemail. I'll try again today.
Today I was contacted by a headhunter for another job.
So, 3 responses this week. And, the only positive response I have ever had to a blind resume despite lots of tries with it.
At the very least it shows things are picking up.

Man, that sounds painful !

Hope that your foot is OK and you still have all your toes !
I could never do hand stands worth a darn - when young it wasn't a matter of arm strength but one of keeping balanced. Though when I was on the track & field team I would do handstands against a wall and do squats (with arms rather than legs) for shoulder/arm training for shot put, etc. That doesn't happen anymore !

Maybe you guys should look into a yoga class next - not one that is all herbal incense/chanting to earth mother class, but a general yoga class for stretching, strengthening and improving flexibility. My wife and I were doing one on the TV for a period several years ago, and it really helped both of us in all these areas. You'd be sore the next day too, but not "kicking the tray cart" sore, either!

My toes have seen worse. That doesn't mean they liked that, but it does mean they kept going and didn't run off in the night.

The stretching isn't that much of a problem with the class. Most of the stretch stances are ones we already use, or close variants. It's the things in motion that tired me out. Kicks, jumps, hops, etc.
And, that really is the stuff I need to do more of anyhow.

sue the bastard tray rack! How dare it strike you down when you're trying to do hand stands! :D

I'm not good at hand-stands either, and I don't like being upside down that much, I get disoriented/vertigo sometimes...Probably why I never ended up becoming a pilot...Sad. :(

They had use sign a "I promise not to sue you" form.
While that won't stop most lawyers, I certainly wouldn't go after them for whacking of toes.
