Superman’s uncle?

My cousin was flying into town today and I went into the airport to get her.
On my way in, I stopped to deal with other issues.
It was more challenging then I expected as almost every road near my house is under construction. The main north-south road through town is totally closed.

I dropped off the swords, and played with my new sword some alone in the dark. (Is that wrong?) Then, off towards Boston.
I stopped at the rest area where there is a toll transponder office because on our trip to KY last weekend we kept getting the “call ez-pass” sign every time we went through one. I expected the battery was done and needed to be swapped out. (No, you can’t do it yourself. You open the case, you owe them $27.50. You drive it over there it’s free.)
The young woman who worked there seemed extraordinarily happy. When she had to print a form for me she literally danced to the printer for it.
Usually my choices in service are:
Surly but efficient
Pleasant but inefficient
I almost always take the first.
I don’t know what to say to a happy and efficient person. I’m not sure I’ve met one before...
It turns out my battery was fine. The problem was the transponder was on the dashboard not 8” higher on the glass. Yes, every state but New York, the dash is fine.
“New York is just stupid that way,” the happy young woman told me.
But, she took care of where I really got on and off and got me a refund for some maximum charges that weren’t valid. She seemed surprised I admitted driving from Albany to Buffalo and back when that is the max toll in New York. But, it is where we went.
So, off to Logan International Airport in Boston harbor. (Yes, in it. It’s built on landfill as is 75% of Boston.)
Why do they make the parking garage windows this color?

Don’t people get sick in airports enough?
Because I had left 20 minutes for arguing if I owed $27.50, I got there early. Not a hopping place in luggage retrieval in Terminal C.

The guy at the news stand tried very hard to sell me quite a bit as I was one of the few people down there and the only one near his booth.

I bought some gummy bears. He seemed happy.
I do have to say Boston has big coffee.

(State trouper left in shot for scale...)
I found my cousin when her plane landed, took her bags and left her there.
That probably sounds mean.
But, she’s got balance issues and I didn’t want to make her go through the spin and barf exit ramp of the garage.

Five levels of this makes me dizzy and I don’t have balance issues.

So, I picked her up at the terminal exit and off we went. (The story of the argument over the chair and paying Russian women to go away is not my story to tell. You’ll have to ask her.)
My family usually has the power to make it rain. The more of us are together, the more it rains.
But, it’s been raining for 2 months already. Yesterday the thunder shook the whole apartment it was so loud.

What more could there be?
I thought it was going to be traffic.

There was certainly a lot of it.
But, my mother in law just called to say there had been tornado warnings all afternoon and ask if had I been carried off by one.
I didn’t see any. But, I never do...
Anyhow, since I got home about the time I used to when I had a job, my wife took me out for sushi.

(Don’t get all logical on me here. I love sushi and don’t get it often these days.)
Since I was cleaning off my phone camera, I’ll leave you with these photos from the last week or so:
Mr Lane who has his own, granted narrow, parking space in front of almost every store.

How much artistry is needed in a cupcake to make it worth $3?

These did not have enough for me.

I’m glad I’m not the one who left this sign.

Oh yeah, the Superman’s uncle thing...
At the hotel where my cousin is staying the elevator says what floor you’re getting off at when it arrives.
When leaving, I pushed L for lobby.
“Floor L,” it said when I got there.
To me, this sounded like Flor-El, Superman’s uncle.
Well, that’s me...

Date: 2009-07-09 09:08 pm (UTC)the NWS has admitted there was a Microburst in Hopkinton the other day during the insane T-storms that came through. I drove through sheets of downpours and road flooding in Medway, hearing on the radio traffic was backed up because of the storm on 495. I didn't hit any real traffic problems, but passed right into Hopkinton...No tornadoes or microbursts seen/felt...Since as I got into Upton, the sun was coming out. Never a dull moment.
