Stubborn, but not the only one

When I dropped off the rent check today I decided to pick up our pool passes too. (Yes, on a cold rainy day, I’m not sure when I’ll use them.)
There was a woman there waiting to talk to the office manager. She was looking for an apartment and asked me if I liked living here.
“Sure,” I said. “I’ve been here for years. It’s close to a lot of stuff, has nice grounds and the apartments are nice.”
The office manager showed her the different types of apartments.
“I like these three bedroom ones,” the woman said.
“Forget about them,” the office manager said. “The people who live in those have all lived there for 20 years and don’t want to give them up.”
“That’s not fair!” I said. “We’ve only had ours 16 years.”
“See,” the office manager said. “None of those are going to be on the market. You should go with the two bedroom ones.”
I knew we’d lived here a while. I didn’t know everyone who lived in my type of apartment stayed put too.
I think we should form a gang.
