Cookie time
May. 29th, 2014 04:08 pmI have again built up a supply of fortune cookie fortunes. Here is the latest batch in the order that I grab them out of the pile:
1) Fear drives you and makes you better
2) You cannot manage men in battle. You manage things, you lead people.
3) Don’t be hasty; prosperity will knock on your door soon.
4) You feel restless-change is just around the corner
5) You are a traveler at heart. There will be many journeys.
6) Go after what you want: there is no time like the present
7) The architect of your destiny is yourself
8) Avert misunderstanding by calm, poise and balance.
9) A merry heart does good like a medicine
10) Accept compliments and give praise
11) All things come to him who waits
12) Courage is the mastery of fear- not the absence of fear

Drop in sword research
May. 29th, 2014 10:38 pmWe were supposed to go over to a friends house tonight and research the Liancour sword manual from 1692. (On line free here: http://www.umass.edu/renaissance/lord/pdfs/Liancour_1692.pdf Translations can be found various places around the internet if you're interested. But, this one has the pictures.)
But, she was off at a city planning meeting and running late. Her son let us in, so we sat around her dining room for an hour going through the manual while her son was upstairs getting ready for his 19th century dance.
It was a bit strange to me to be left alone in someone else's house to do sword research. Granted, we've known them for many years and done a lot of sword research together. But, still a bit strange.
When she got out of her meeting we did go though the first 3 chapters of the manual. Next week, we'll start #4.
Hopefully it will go a bit smother next time...
