Atomic Wedgie Pirate Party
Apr. 11th, 2009 10:34 pmIt was a cold rain that fell today. The sort of rain that makes you say “I wish we weren’t booked to sword fight at a kid’s birthday party this afternoon.”
But, we were.
And, given we’ve performed in hurricanes, snow storms, rain so hard it put out flaming swords and on frozen lakes, it really wasn’t the sort of thing that was all that bad.
The usual result of my trying to drive on route 20 through Marlboro is some sort of traffic disaster that takes at least an hour to get through. Google maps said 37 minutes, we left 90 before we were scheduled.
So, we got there an hour early.
Driving there, we went past The Wayside Inn. While not really a fan of eating there, I went to a lot of historical events and meetings there back when I was very involved in the SAR color guard.
And, as we drove past there was a bunch of people there dressed as British revolutionary era soldiers!
It was VERY tempting to have a car full of pirates attack the British empire.
But, I was too afraid that it was an SAR event and they’d know who I was. (Turns out that it wasn’t. Their annual event there was last week, not this week.)
Instead we stopped at a different bastion of the King and had burgers.
The party went well enough. The parents had set up a plank for walking in the garage. The kids watched from there as we fought in the driveway.
I am happy that the folks there all had fights with each other. So, we could say to the birthday boy “pick two of us and we’ll fight for you”.
I’m happy our “whoop nerds” are up to that point. Good fights, with all.
The kids really seemed into the siege machines. We hadn’t had much call for them the last couple of years. But, we’ve had several ask for them this year. So, I’m glad we’ve still got them.
The kids didn’t seem to like just a “yield” ending, and somehow Perrin put into their heads the proper ending was an atomic wedgie. Good thing that’s easy to fake...
Too bad about the rain. But, how often do you get to do pirate atomic wedgies?
P.S. The good news is that our average performance location is still on the grounds of Ryder college, not too far from where we performed. It moved across the baseball field with this performance.

Date: 2009-04-12 03:21 am (UTC)cool you came across redcoats at the Wayside. I've been meaning to see an event with the Sudbury Minutemen or whichever groups out there.
I have no idea what to say about Route 20 both in Charlton and Marlboro. it's like a never ending construction project...Makes the Big Dig look like a cakewalk.
