Cement sharks?
Mar. 30th, 2009 12:43 pmWhen we got to the practice grounds yesterday, I found a disturbing site.

Yes, a skateboard that looks bitten in half.
Now, we’re 40 miles from the ocean. I’ll grant you great whites have been found in Boston harbor in the last 10 years. But, the only source of water near this was a puddle along the road.

So, I think it must be a very rare cement shark. Probably related to the common land shark. Skate boards make a sound not entirely unlike door to door sales people, the land shark’s favorite prey. So, the shark probably got confused when it bit into board and spit out what was left.
The only other explanation is that a great white took a train out of Boston and leapt off of the train track that runs behind the practice grounds on to a skater. But, that seems unlikely as passenger trains don’t go farther than Worcester and it would have to sneak onto a freight train from there to get to Clinton.
Ah well, we’ll probably never know…
We had a couple of the new folks thinking of joining Phoenix come to practice yesterday. We went over some of our basic exercises and started showing them one of the historical styles we do at shows.
We also went over some of the things not to do.

Sadly, I’ve seen a lot of folks who do think that way or maybe the marginally better version.

Still it can be tough to perform a sword fight in front of a few hundred people and not get a bit caught up in it.
But, hopefully it won’t be as bad as some of the folks we’ve dealt with in the past…
