Icy Friday

So, the weather report had said ice storm last night. The news this morning was saying how bad it is, but mostly north of here.
There was a lot of ice in the parking lot this morning and it was still raining.


I didn’t think much of the water flowing through the parking lot. After all there is usually water there.


I hadn’t realized just how much water was flowing until it washed over my shoes and filled them up.


It did make quite the lake at the bottom of the parking lot.


There were a lot of trees down.


I did manage to get out of the lot to drive to work.


The roads were a bit hard to get past.


The center of town took a lot of damage. Lots of trees down.






But, dodging trees, ice and traffic due to the lack of traffic lights, I got to work. The parking lot was empty, and all the power was out.
As I sat there in the parking lot, the head of shipping drove up. He confirmed that there was no power to the building and the folks who unlock the building hadn’t shown up.
Then, my boss called to tell me the factory was closed for the day and I didn’t have to come in.
So, I drove back home through the ice again.




My wife’s work was open, and she was there. So, I grabbed the camera to take some pictures. (It’s my way, what can I say.)
When I drove to work I hadn’t noticed the trees in the upper parking lot had brought down a tree over the power lines.


It had landed across a few cars and into the lawn next to the road.


Since I had first driven past it, it had started to set the lawn on fire, even with the ice and rain.


The woman who owned the white car had called the fire department and they did show up. (The woman was quite sad about it all as she was planning to sell the car tomorrow. But, it looked like there wasn’t much damage.)


Sadly, the fire department wasn’t sure what to do either.


They were waiting for the electric company to show up and cut the power before they went near the lines.


And, I don’t blame them for that at all.
I was afraid they’d shut power off to my place fixing it, but they haven’t yet. Hopefully that means they didn’t have to, not that they are so busy they haven’t gotten hear yet. But, according to the fire department 80% of the town is out due to this storm, so who knows?
But, I’m home and warm. And, I’ve got power. So, that’s pretty good.

Holy Cannoli! I had no idea it was so bad out near you. I didn't notice any problems at all here in Boston this morning, not even the usual lakes we get at the street corners. You guys must have gotten a lot more rain.
