Bill our friend who does the Viking research had a tree hunting party today. He grows “Christmas” trees at the edge of his yard.

So, after a brief stop in shopping hell (Toys R Them) to get a present for the disadvantaged kids program where my wife works, we headed over.
There weren’t as many folks there today as I would have expected. I mean an offer for Viking Christmas trees was something I was willing to give up sword practice to see. (OK, the no heat in the practice ground did influence my decision some...)
But, there were only 3 groups of us there for trees.
We had a very nice visit with Bill. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him or really had a chance to talk with him.
So, we spent a lot of the afternoon talking before we headed out to get a tree, so it was almost dark when we did.*

My wife picked out a nice one on the end of a row.

Now, you may wonder how a Viking cuts down a tree.
The answer is they get down on the ground with a saw.

My wife did an excellent job of picking a tree that was nice and big, but fit in my car.

I know, I should have gotten a picture of it in the car, but I didn't. It is just 1 Frank car length long, which is amazing for her to get that by eye.

We wrestled it up stairs and put it in the usual corner of our living room.

It is a very nice tree and it looks quite nice in the corner. It was also nice to get a chance to visit with Bill.

His book is due out next month. He’s also used as a visual source for the illustrations in an upcoming children’s book. That’s pretty cool too. We saw the art work for it and it looked very nice.

* An interesting conversation with Bill involves everything from museum presentations, cold fusion, international travel, world economics and more. He is a very interesting guy in a wide range of things.

Very nice tree. You kinda expect vikings to have little trolls with axes to fell the tree.

After the holidays are over are you going to give it (the tree) the traditional viking funeral rites ? (Set on fire, float out to sea)??

;-)

Ooo, tempting.
But, no.
Once with the ferret was enough for me.
