Turkey day

Thanksgiving started out as many of our holidays do. Up fairly early, waffles and bacon for breakfast, then put the turkey in the oven. (I think turkeys taking long enough to cook that I could reach level 72 and my wife level 71 is something worth thanks.)

As is often the case when I stuff the turkey, by the time it was fully cooked, parts of it were falling off.

But, that’s the way most folks I know like it, so no complaints. Taking it out of the pan, it did list to port and the stuffing came pouring out into the pan it cooked in. The pan still had all the turkey grease from cooking it, so it was like pre-gravy on the stuffing. I got more compliments then usual on it this year...

Anyhow, unlike other years where we’ve had people over, this year we went off to [livejournal.com profile] yebo and [livejournal.com profile] zosh’s house for the day.
So, into the car went the pie my wife made last night, the turkey cooked this morning. some bread and the dragon head. (OK, the dragon head was already in the car...)

[livejournal.com profile] julytooth joined us there and brought some pies with her.
The turkey did OK on the trip, but the legs had fallen off of it.

No one seemed to mind as I carved up the rest of it anyhow.

[livejournal.com profile] yebo and [livejournal.com profile] zosh had the table all set up for the dinner.

And, there was quite a spread of food.

I picked mostly tan and light colored food.

My wife was more colorful.

We ate a lot, then waited a bit. [livejournal.com profile] zosh cleaned up a lot while we waited around and I continued to nibble on turkey.

Then, it was pie time.

Sweet potato, apple and pecan. All very good.

There were issues getting the sweet potato pie out of the dish. The first two pieces came out OK.

But, when it was time for my piece, it had to be scrapped off on my plate.

It doesn’t matter, it wasn’t on the plate long.

We stayed until about 7, talking about all sorts of stuff. A lot of it about what we weren't doing with family while we were having a good time there.
It was a very nice Thanksgiving. And, I am very thankful to have friends to share it with and a wife to come home with at the end of the day.

Hooray! Happy T-Day

I'm very happy that you've got such good friends to spend the holiday with and eat good food, as both of your own families are unfortunately not very happy. It's one thing I'm happy for on my side, my father's side of the family gets along quite well and we enjoy each other's company, have a few laughs.

Not that my Mom's side isn't the same, but, there are definately some issues that come up, and it's a 'larger' family with lots of people and children so it can also be kind of overwhelming and lots of strong personalities to deal with.

but this holiday for me it's more important to try to drop issues and stuff and just enjoy company and good food, if anything for 1 day.
