A day in New York City
Oct. 21st, 2017 10:31 pmMy wife had wanted to see a special exhibit at the Morgan Library:
http://www.themorgan.org/exhibitions/magnificent-gems

We set off fairly early to try and beat the traffic.

It was a very nice day and the drive south went well.

I got worried when we stopped at a rest area in Connecticut to check the traffic and I was told we couldn’t get into the city at all.

So, although what we wanted to see was the east side, I went down the west as the traffic looked better.

Then we had to cross Manhattan.

I saw the president’s house. Didn’t see him. He did send me an email, but not about that.

We got there without problem.

The exhibit was very nice.

One of the things I found most interesting was how well the colors had held up over 500 or so years.

I also found George Washington in the basement.

Places to sit too…

I’ve always liked Roller/Cylinder seals. Not sure why. I’ve just always thought them particularly cool.

The Morgan has a room of them.

They had some other very nice ancient writings.

Then, we hit the streets and walked over to the New York Public Library.

It’s only a couple of blocks from the Morgan and we got there pretty fast.

They seem to have a lot of Einsteins there.

It’s a great library and fun just to walk around.

I like the map room.

The globe there has NYC worn off of it from people pointing to where it is.

Of course there is a certain bear and friends there I had particularly wanted to see.

It was nice to see them.

Then, back on the streets.

I kept thinking of the Illuminati. Not sure why…

I think this is where Doctor Strange lives…

We thought about going up the Empire State Building as it’s been 49 years since the last time I’ve been up there. But, we decided it would take longer than we wanted.

We went back to the Morgan for lunch. It was very nice, but the wait staff was very confused. My wife got far more soup than she wanted. But, it tasted good.

Then, the road home.

I haven’t been to the UN since 1977…

Good thing I spotted this sign to FDR drive.

Some drivers were less than nice.

But, we managed to get out of town.

About half way across Connecticut, the road came to a stop.

We could see across the valley something going on at the tunnel entrance.

Some cars just honked and tried to cheat on going around, but it didn’t work.

They ended up backing up the breakdown lane and taking the previous exit.
Four ambulances and three tow trucks were needed.

Lots of folks were waiting.

It was hard too see just what was going on, but it seemed bad.

I did get plenty of time to look.

I wasn’t the only one to get out and look either.

My wife is simply not willing to take photos of car accidents.

But, it looked like someone had stopped and other people ran into them. What triggered it I can’t say.
But, we sat there waiting for more than an hour until we could go again.
We eventually got back to Worcester and stopped for Mexican food for dinner.
