Just north of where we live is the Wachusett Reservoir.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wachusett_Reservoir
It was formed by damming a river and flooding several towns.

While we drive past the dam fairly often, we’ve never been over it. They don’t normally let folks walk out on it as they’re afraid of terrorists.
But, once a year, they have a dam day and allow it.
Today, in the rain, was the day. So, my wife and I set off to go across the dam.

There is a nice park below it that also has restricted access.

Despite the rain, a good number of folks showed up.

It’s hard to tell in the photos, but it was very windy and rainy. At some points the rain was going horizontal.

But, it is a nice view.

The dam was made by hand. Not common any more.

They had rangers along the dam to answer questions. It was good of them to stand there in the rain.

This photo shows a bit of how hard the rain was based on how much it was bouncing off of my wife’s umbrella.

And, the wind was causing whitecaps on the Reservoir.

We did go all the way across.

The spillway is on the far side, and it is the first time I’d seen it.

After getting very damp, we walked back across and headed home.
