October means dreams

Last night I dreamed that New Jersey had implemented a water transportation system for people that moved in a big loop around NYC and Newark. (It pretty much followed the route 287 for those who know it.)

We were trying to get to a sword show in New Jersey and were told that the only way to get there was the water way. So, all of our luggage, including the swords, was put on a cargo boat, and we were directed to the personnel route.
This was essentially one of those “lazy river” kind of things they have at water parks, except you floated in a big circle around New Jersey. It was underground in a tunnel, so there wasn’t even anything to see.
It went about as fast as the water park too. So, after sitting with our legs in the water for a day, we were still hours away from where we needed to be.

“We’re getting off and getting a hotel for the night!” my wife said as evening arrived.
Everyone got out of their little boat things on one of the docks and my wife led them up the stairs to the surface.
As we headed up, I saw that there was an “express” service too. The photo indicated it was power boats going around in the tunnels.
“Let’s take this,” I said to my wife. “We can still get to our destination tonight.”
“I’ve turned into a prune already,” she said. “I want to go dry off and stay dry for the night.”
“I’m going to go check it out,” I said, and turned down the corridor with the sign.

I got to the express tunnels and found it wasn’t as good as the signs had indicated. Instead of speed boats, it was more like an amusement park ride boat that just looked like a speed boat. But, it was still faster than floating along in the water like we had done.

I asked about tickets for it and was directed up a different set of stairs.
These came out in a shopping mall. (That my mind used the Dartmouth Mall from MA to represent.)
The ticketing and such was done like in an airport, including newsstands and such.
I went over to the news stand and bought a candy bar. They even had airport prices.

Dream ends

Before going to bed last night I watched a BBC documentary on airports and how everything gets moved around in them to get to your plane.
Clearly this had a big influence on that dream.
The documentary showed a luggage system of carts that moved around under the airport and talked of the “river” of things that flow under passenger’s feet to make everything work.
I think my brain combined those things into one thing for this.
