It was a reasonably soggy week.

But, still pretty.

Tuesday was our company cookout/picnic. Some folks were very ready.

Others, just ate the food.

Our department created a volleyball team for the tournament. (The second guy from the left was some random guy we were assigned…)

If they gave prizes for getting it in the weeds, we’d have totally won.

We lost 15 to 2 to the manufacturing guys who practice every day all year long.

The other team lost to them 15 to 1, so I say we came in 3rd.

I got home before the rain arrived.

We had nice sunsets this week too.

Going in to work this morning I was quite worried I might have to dodge balloons.

The good news is they didn’t land on the highway. Or on the power lines next to the highway.

I also saw this fellow in our parking lot:

Is that a skunk? Eee! They are so cute but I've heard that their spray is quite awful and difficult to wash off anything it gets on. Still cute though.

It is indeed a skunk. They are fairly common in the area where we live.
There used to be a family of them in our courtyard, but the maintenance men chased them off.

The spray they give out is pretty bad. I've never been hit with it directly. But, sadly a lot of them are run over on the roads and release it. So, it is not unusual to drive through a cloud of it.

I've always liked them. Many years ago when I worked at the natural history museum I used one in the animal shows I did. I had been told that it had been de-scented. I used it every week for more than a year. Never had a problem.
When it died of old age they examined it and found it had not been de-scented after all. It was just mellow and knew I wasn't going to let the kids hurt it.

Skunks are cool! I also worked with one, but she HAD be de-scented, though she was still a rather funky-smelling girl. So sweet and pretty, though!

There are a good number of them over here. They come out at night so you don't see them very often. But, you smell them a fair bit.

When we were trying to trap the kittens that had been born in our shed- and their mom- we did get a skunk. Fortunately, it didn't much mind.

Skunks are cool. I don't bother them, they don't bother me.

i'm happy that my only experience with skunks is the occasional 'aw shit someone hit a skunk' while driving down the highway hours out west to visit relatives. especially owning two very very nosy dogs.

Cute polecat*! hahaha.

All my dogs seem destined to find at least one in their lifetime. ugh.

*I know not really a polecat, but my grandpa would call them that.
