Strange dream

Last night I dreamed my wife and I were survivors of a zombie apocalypse.
It was not one of the magic kinds where actual dead people keep walking.
In this there had been some sort of disease that effected people’s minds.
It removed most of their intelligence, but vastly increased their hunger.
The people who got it would eat anything even close to being food,
including other people.
About 9 in 10 caught it. Exactly who would or would not get it was not
clear. But, the more allergies you had, the less likely you were to get it.
So, my wife and I both didn’t get it.
It swept around the world very fast. It seemed to be airborne, so one
sneeze in a crowded place and most people in the area would wake up as
zombies the next day.
Even being the same room as one would mean there was a good chance you’d
catch it.
It only took a couple of weeks for almost everyone to die. The zombies
attacked everyone, including each other.
As my wife and I are both fairly fat people and didn’t need much food, we
waited it out. Long before we needed to come out of our apartment it was
mostly over.
Services like power, water and internet lasted for a short time, but
without people keeping them going it wasn’t very long.
10% of the population didn’t catch the disease. But, most of them were
caught by the zombies.
Almost all the zombies killed each other.
A very, very few retained enough intelligence to be able to put off their
hunger and be more hunters than just herds of eating bodies.
Those were the ones that were dangerous once the others died off.
They still weren’t very smart in terms of intellect. But, they were
cunning and would wait for good moments to strike rather than just run at
you like the others.
The good news was they were not at all able to build shelters or do
anything else against the elements. So, as the fall set in, they began to
move south to keep warm.
The dream ended with my wife and I going through a sporting goods store
near our house looking for things we could use to get through the winter.
We didn’t want to head south with the zombies, but knew we couldn’t stay in
our apartment without power for heat.
We had picked up a van somewhere and were loading it with equipment.
Vehicles were easy to get. Fuel for them much harder. So, we were only
taking things we knew we’d need to save weight.
As we were there in the parking lot loading things, another car drove up.
Clearly not a zombie as they couldn’t operate vehicles. But, other
survivors could be more dangerous.
We had scavenged several firearms in addition to our swords, bows and other
things we already owned.
I pointed a shotgun at the car as it pulled up.
A man very carefully got out.
“How much is left in there?” he asked, pointing to the store.
“A good bit,” I said. “We aren’t taking much. Don’t think anyone was here
before us.”
“Mind if I take a look?”
“Why don’t you wait five minutes for us to finish, then I won’t care at
all.”
He nodded and sat on the hood of his car while we finished packing. I
couldn’t see any weapon on him, but was sure he had one.
In addition to watching him, I kept scanning the area around the store, but
there didn’t seem to be anything out there.
My wife and I finished and got in the van.
“All yours,” I said, as I climbed in.
He nodded and headed into the store.
We pulled out on the road and drove away.
Dream ends.
It’s funny, I know right where that sporting goods store was in my dream
(42.289761/-71.633964 if you’re interested), but there isn’t a sporting
goods store there in real life. It’s a residential neighborhood and not
even a store of any kind. No idea why my dream put a store there when
there are actual sporting goods stores closer to home than that.
Most of this dream happened as sort of a flash back inside the dream. As
we were loading the van at the store I had a sort of “this is what brought
us to this” reflection that explained it all to me.
Flash backs in dreams are not common for me either.
The zombies only showed up in the flashbacks, not directly in the dream.
And, even in the flashback it was clear I had been watching them on TV and
the internet, not seeing them in person.
I used to have a lot of post apocalyptic dreams, but they were always for
war before this, never for something like this. Very strange.

Date: 2016-04-04 10:56 pm (UTC)Dreams I have involving zombies are usually reflections from watching that zombie comic book turned TV series.
…Although I feel this is the last season I'm going to watch, it's become formulaic and the dreams aren't very good dreams.
*shrug*
I'm glad that in-dream the fellow looking to raid the store decided to be patient, etc.
