The Mobile Ren faire, 2015

Saturday morning my wife and I got up early and went for breakfast.

Then, back to the hotel to get in costume.

We found the other two back at the hotel made some friends at breakfast there.

To get to the faire, you cross the river Styx.

We got to the faire ground as the blacksmith was getting going.

It made for a smokey place.

We set up our web to swords.

The schedule was…
Well, I guess it was made at 5 that morning.

Which may explain why 3 acts were all supposed to use the same stage at 3:30…

As we were one of those acts I went to the others to try and arrange something.
The falconer refused to change his time. The SCA said "We’ll fight you for it!"
So, we went on at 2:30 and let them work it out…
Meanwhile Tom inflated our treasure chest.

Our first show was at the "Chapel Stage".

Not a lot of room for sword fighting.
After our first show, one of our "fans" came for sword lessons.

You know the kind. Doesn’t like to listen. Wants to "win" his sword lesson. Hits too hard.
I took the lesson as my wife and Tom have dealt with him before and I wasn’t going to give him to the new guy to deal with that.
I roamed around a bit more.

We did our pirate shows. 2 shows with only 1/2 hour between them.

This made some folks tired.

Some of our friends showed up to see us.

That was very nice.
Before our last show of the day the "King" did a vow renewal for some folks who had been married 25 years.

Then, our fire show.

Our friend

I acted as safety for him while he was near our expensive tent…
Then, we went out to dinner with our group and our friends.

Then, back to the hotel where I slept a lot…
The next morning we all got up early and went for breakfast.

Then, off to the smokey faire.

It was a nice warm sunny day. Very nice!

And, a nice area.

Even the cactus were happy.

Our new guy, who will now be known as "Bucket Head", did a lot of talking to folks.

The day before, I snapped the cord on the wick of my fire sword. So, I repaired it with a bandage from our first aid kit.

I also pondered why we are keeping a "Zorro" Mask in our first aid kit…

The shows went well again. After the three sword shows, folks rested a bit.

Then, as the sun set, fire show.

Then, pack up and go.
Well, after we got paid…

Then, dinner at the BBQ place again.

Finally, back to the hotel for more sleep.

…Is it me or was one of the stages you were performing at right next to a clothing vendor? There's a rack full of clothes that seems
awfully close.

Date: 2015-11-20 08:29 pm (UTC)But, Tom says it usually isn't that bad. Unless he hasn't shaved his head and the hairs burn.
He's pretty careful not to do that. Again.

Date: 2015-11-20 09:18 pm (UTC)Ya know, the more times I end up wearing that elf suit, the more I consider performance artist as a legitimate life path.

Date: 2015-11-20 09:30 pm (UTC)But I think my primary career in engineering is better for me. Performing is a great secondary thing, but I wouldn't want to depend on it for room and board.
