Traveling to Alabama and back

Nothing makes you want to head closer to the equator than a cold rainy day. And, last Thursday was that.

I worked until 3 in the afternoon, and headed home. My wife and the other person driving with us met me there and we took off south.
Connecticut had bad traffic. But, that’s like saying rain is wet.

New Jersey has supplemented gas prices, so we always buy gas there.

Through the tunnel in Maryland and we are out of the land of toll roads. (Well, mostly. Georgia has optional ones for express lanes…)

Driving all night long is something everyone enjoys, right?

There are stretches of the drive where there is very little along the road.

And, what there is can be strange. Just what is Vapor Body Jewelry?

We were in North Carolina when the sun started to reappear.

We decided to stop for McDonald’s for breakfast.

Mostly because we wanted something warm.
By the time we saw the South Carolina Peachoid, the sun was above the horizon.

I drank a lot of caffeine to keep going. So, a fair number of stops.

Before lunch time we were going through Atlanta.

For Atlanta, it wasn’t bad traffic.

South of Atlanta there was a car on fire. But, no one was in it and others had stopped, so we kept going.

Soon, we were in Alabama.

Land of cotton.

And, cheap gas.

And, big spaces.

Soon… No. After 24 hours of driving, we were at the faire site.

We quickly found where to set up and began.

It didn’t take us all that long.

Then we helped a friend set up.

OK, my wife did a lot of the helping. I mostly stood there saying "my brain is not working now."
Maybe it was the collard greens…

It was all finished as it was getting dark.

So, we met up with Tom and went out to dinner at a BBQ place walking distance from our hotel.

Then, I slept a lot…
