Today WOW, tomorrow the skies!

The last expansion that came out for WOW they said they weren’t going to let people fly. Basically because it made it too easy for people.
No, my bear mount can’t fly. Just parachute.

But, they have finally relented. They said you will be able to fly if you go and look at all the new content they wrote and see how cool it is.

OK, that isn’t really what they said.
What they said is that you have to get these achievements, explore the expansion, do the quest chains, and get reputation with certain factions.
But, trust me, it comes down to "look at the content me made that you’ve been ignoring!"

Of course, some of it is buggy. Like floating people for no reason. (Upper left)

But, a lot of it is cool. You do spend a whole lot of time grinding in their new section.

But, no one minds grinding the same quests every day for a month or two, right?

We did manage to get the grinding one done over the weekend.

And, I got the exploring without too much trouble.

Last night I got the final piece (of 100) of buried treasure I needed.

And, today we finished the last two quests you have to do, getting the "pathfinder" achievement.

Up until now it hasn’t mattered how long we took to do this. Even if you finish it, you don’t get anything. But, tomorrow is the big update and that’s when you’ll be able to fly.
So, my wife and I finishing tonight is perfect timing.
Tomorrow we’ll be able to fly our characters around.
Of course, we won’t have anything we have to do as we just finished everything…

Date: 2015-09-01 01:57 pm (UTC)I'm hoping that if I grind a bit, I'll be able to get it in a week or two. Luckily, I already had the Loremaster and Explorer stuff done. But I'm a nerd about those and always make sure that I hit the whole storyline and see all the sights.

The treasures is a tough one. But, if you get the treasure maps it becomes much, much easier. I got more than 30 treasures out of the starting area in only an hour.
Securing Draenor was the last one I got done too. It got much easier once we realized we could buy the quests to do the areas and didn't need to wait for them to come up in rotation.

You can still fly in all of the old zones. But, until today, none of the new ones. And, until today, there was nothing you could do about that.
Then, their subcription numbers dropped in a way that makes the current stock market look good and they started to look for ways to make players happy.
This is a big one.

Date: 2015-09-01 05:11 pm (UTC)In this expansion for FFXIV, we had to earn it zone by zone. That was pretty nice, since you could fly in the zones you had 75% finished instead of having to wait until you beat the whole storyline. It's our first flying ability in the game thus far, so it was pretty special.
