It is fairly common for them to start an expansion without flying and only let you get it when you reach some milestone. This expansion was unique in them saying they were never going to do it. You can still fly in all of the old zones. But, until today, none of the new ones. And, until today, there was nothing you could do about that.
Then, their subcription numbers dropped in a way that makes the current stock market look good and they started to look for ways to make players happy. This is a big one.
