25 years ago yesterday I had a party. It was the end of the summer term and my group of friends usually had a party at the end of the term.
I had asked a girl I met at another party the Saturday before to come to the party. I had called her at home, on advice of a friend, to make sure she’d be there.
Only 4 people showed up for the party, but she was one of them.

Now, I count that as a date. I invited her, called to confirm, and she showed up.
She doesn’t count that as a date because I invited a bunch of other people too.
It is true that at the party where I met her, I gave a group invite to everyone there to come to my party. That’s why she says it didn’t count.
But, I specifically asked her, and she is the only person I called to make sure they’d be there.

So, was it a date? Or, do we wait until Wednesday which is 25 years since we went to the movies together?

Well, I had a similar experience - invited a girl whom I'd met at work while in college to a party at my apartment - I think that we both considered it a date even though we had about 20 other people there. Especially since she ended up spending the night with me under a blanket on our couch afterwards.

What made things difficult were:
1) Her mother coming over to pick her up at 8 AM the next morning (they lived in the same city as the school)
2) Trying to slide into work later that morning without her father (my boss) noticing me and coming over to say "Wow, you had some party last night, didn't you ?!?.

She and I dated for while afterwards, but I got too freaked out by the fact that she worked for me and I worked for her dad so I eventually ended our dating. Now, I am the godfather to one of her two sons. Life can be weird that way.

You know, I was trying to keep what she and I did on the couch at the party out of it....

Edited to make sure folks knew it wasn't Mike and me on the couch...

I know if a guy calls to make sure that I will be there, then I would call that a date. What was done on the couch would be called lust.( no date needed).;)

Simple really

Both people must agree it was a date to make it a date.

If you think this is at all a big debate, you should see the pizza one...

First, I love your journal entries :-)

I say if you were not using the "shotgun" approach and inviting multiple females to the party hoping the planets would line up and one of them would feel like jumping on you then it was a date.

What is a date really except devoting an entire time period to trying to initiate a mating ritual with one girl/boy?

In closing, I think you should consider the party AND the movies a date, and have a nice dinner and sleep with her both days. :-)

We both agree that when we went to the movies (25 years ago tomorrow) that it counted as a date.

There were only 2 women at the party where we met, and the other one was the girlfriend of the host. So, I don't think I could be thought of shotgunning lots of women there.
(You've got to understand, the college I went to had 7 guys for every gal attending. That party had about those same odds.)

Glad you like the posts....

25 Yrs!
