Mystic Realms 2

Sunday morning saw the end of the storm and a sun trying to break through the clouds.

But, when we went over to the faire site, we saw what those "flash flood" warnings our phone gave us were about.

And, when we got to our tent…

But, we had it designed and built on the gulf coast by folks who set them up in hurricanes. We have had it up in winds close to hurricane level without problem. It’s supposed to be able to take a class 2 if the stakes are in firm enough ground. I hope we never have to test that. But, it can take some water…
Of course, we have to get things left in the tent out and get the parts where they can dry.

The sign first. Priorities!

It was hard to tell just where Lake Phoenix actually ended…

I had problems keeping my pants out of the water. Blue pants clearly wanted to go in the water…

The faire organizer did stop in and check on us.

"We’re moving across the street," we told him.
"OK."
But, once the rescue was done, rest and caffeinated soda first.

To be fair, we didn’t have the only place flooded on the site.

Our god kids mother is the smartest person I know. MD and Phd. She asked if I could figure out how to get the tent out of there without getting it wet and dirty.

"Yes," I told her.
"OK," she replied.
I don’t know if she had a plan to offer or not…
Then, it was group photo time. All of us, except Tom, went down to the end on the left.
"Where’s Tom," Al asked. "I hope he didn’t get lost!"
I looked.
"He’s stage center next to the king," I said. "That’s Tom for you…"

Then, sword cleaning time. They hadn’t been in the lake, but they had been in the rain.

Slowly, the water receded from Lake Phoenix.

The sun came out and it turned into a wonderful day.

We gave extra sword practice to our new perfumers.

Our first show went well.

Then time for our part in the big show.

Good guys to the rescue!

You can tell Tom’s winning there, right?

Apparently I managed to capture the view from my sword hilt…

Al has been a big D&D and LoTR fan for as long as I’ve known him. So, he wanted his photo with the Ent…

Still receding…

Our last show of the day has some extremely enthusiastic young girls in the audience. They had swords and were looking to learn how to use them. My wife showed some examples.

Then Ben and Al did a fight with Tom.

We have people who have tried for years to do a 3 person fight. They managed it on their second day performing with us.
"What do you expect?" their mother asked me. "You’ve been giving the kids sword fighting lessons since they could stand. And, you used to sword fight with Al 35 years ago."
I mentioned she was very smart, right?
We went off to see the last act that we were not in. We were almost run over by the parade.

Yeah, two days of doing the show and there is already "an act we aren’t in? Meh" thing going on…

Then, the time had come. Lake Phoenix was as drained as it was going to get before we had to pack up.

But, my plan worked. Took it down without anyone’s shoes getting more than damp and no mud or water on the tent top.

Lots of people helping made pack up go fast!

Faire closed at 5. We were packed, changed, and saying our goodbyes to people by 5:30.

The drive home seemed long, but was about the same time as the one down.
The rain we had Saturday night was still north and east of us, so we got to see it again.

We got home about midnight and Tom had an hour after that. But, all got home.
It was a good time.
And, I remain fantastically happy our adopted family helped us at the show!

Date: 2015-06-30 11:07 am (UTC)I didn't know/realize the rain had stopped and the Lake had receded. I had thought it was pouring all day Sunday.
Glad I was wrong.

Date: 2015-06-30 02:54 pm (UTC)Even Al, my friend of the last 35 years in the photos above, I've had to shout:
"One of King Authur's knights of the round table! The guy who wrote "The Three Musketerrs"! The best sword fighter in France in the 1700's!"
"Really?"
"YES! There are mountains of evidence that people ignore because they tried to erase it in the 1800's!"
Sorry. Didn't mean to rant...
