Round and round and round…
Jul. 16th, 2008 10:05 amIn the spring of 1983 I had broken up with my girlfriend after a gay guy said to me “I don’t see what you see in women anyhow, but this time I really don’t see it. Can you explain to me why it’s worth it?” I wasn’t able to. It wasn’t worth it. So, we broke up.
I spent the next few months trying to meet someone new, and not having much luck at it. It was summer. I was taking classes, but there weren’t a lot of folks around. My friends kept trying to set me up with people. But, their taste and mine weren’t very close.
On July 16th, my friend Jack invited me to a party at his place.
“You should come over,” he said. “There will be girls there.”
He wasn’t lying. But, only just. There were two girls there, one of whom was his girlfriend at the time.
That other girl and I did get together. As of today, we’ve been together for about 14 billion, 768 million, 517 thousand and 518 miles. That only counts the spin of the Earth and going around the solar system. It’s still pretty far. But, that’s what 9132 days will get you.
