May. 23rd, 2015 07:09 pmWhen driving to the airport Wednesday morning I came to a great parking space, but saw it was for "electric or hybrid vehicles only". I started to look farther and then said, "wait, I’m driving my Prius…"
So, I parked there.

Despite getting there at 4AM, there was a long line for security. And, although security was supposed to be open, they didn’t get started until about 4:15…

Just about the time the sun came up, I got on the plane.

A couple of hours later, I was in Atlanta in their airport subway.

I’ve never liked that subway since the trip I took through Atlanta and saw people get trapped in it.

But, I made it out, got my rental car and drove out into the hot Georgia day.

And, into a really bad traffic jam.

But going through Atlanta a few times a year means I know some ways around and was soon north of the city to visit my freezer supplier.

Things went surprisingly well there, and soon I was back in Atlanta traffic going the other way.

And, riding a different train from the rental car office.

For some reason, the Atlanta airport seems to have giant ants…

I was very indulgent. I paid for a first class upgrade flying home. Selfish Frank, but the flight home from Phoenix 2 weeks ago with a lap baby next to me for 5 hours made me much more receptive to the idea…

I can’t deny, it was a much nicer flight that way.

I left Boston at dawn and returned at dusk.

For some reason, Thursday was planter on hood day. Don’t know what.

Friday was a cloudy start to the three day weekend.

I left 15 minutes early.
Given I’ve worked 70 extra hours so far in May, I don’t think that is a problem.

Date: 2015-05-24 01:46 am (UTC)For three hours of being upgraded.
But, they gave me dinner on the plane so I didn't have to buy it in the airport. So, that would reduce it some...

Date: 2015-05-24 12:07 pm (UTC)But, Atlanta is one of the busiest airports in the world, so they tend to get larger planes going in and out.

Date: 2015-05-25 11:51 am (UTC)I get paid the same if it is 8 hours a day or 18.
So, I try and avoid the 18 days.
So, the only one who is counting is me. And, I count time in the air as it is time away from what I could be doing at company request.

Date: 2015-05-25 11:54 am (UTC)My wife did get us upgrades when we went to see the horde for her birthday a couple of years ago. But, on a 90 minute flight the only real difference is a bigger seat. (Don't get me wrong, that is still nice.)
The longer flights are when it is a bigger difference. A drink before you take off, as much as you want while you fly, a meal, drinks in real glasses, meals with real metal utensils...
I think I was the only one of the folks in first class not drinking alcohol...
One of the flight attendants told the other "so many people are asking for gin and tonic we might run out of gin!"
So, if you like that sort of stuff I guess it is extra nice.
For me, the big seat and better service were enough.
