Saturday we performed at the Prince John Faire at the Plymouth State University in Plymouth New Hampshire, about 2 hours north of where we live.

It wasn’t entirely clear to us why the faire had the theme associated with the usual villain out of Robin Hood stories. But, neither the prince himself or prince of thieves showed up, so no worries either way.

We did get up fairly early and were on the road before the sun came up.

It is almost all superhighway between here and there and early on a Saturday morning there wasn’t much traffic. So, we soon were zooming into New Hampshire.

The faire is in a river valley in the mountains. The highway follows the valley, so nice views.

It’s a nice campus. We were in a different part than last year. I liked this years better.

Despite needing to get there by 8:30 in the morning, our first show wasn’t until 12:30 in the afternoon. So, I got to have a nice lunch before our show.

[livejournal.com profile] ravena_kade had joined us on this job to help us out. Many of the photos you see here are from her. But, not this one.

A statue of Robert Frost watched all our shows.

Our newest member showed up just after us, even though he had twice as long a drive. We reviewed the things he was going to perform. Although he helped out at the job a couple of weeks ago, this was the first time he was performing in front of a crowd. He did fine.

We started the show with my wife and I doing our stage fight. We should have practiced that first as we didn’t do it as well as the new guy did his stuff.

But, I doubt the audience knew.

As I said, the new guy did fine.

Yeah, first show with us and he’s in the bag.

My wife and I also demoed a few items.

It is probably hard to tell in this photo, but by the time of our second show it was raining.

The grey between us and the building is rain.

But, rain or not, we kept going. A bunch of folks with umbrellas stood there and watched us.

The faire folks came and told us that they were closing early and we could pack up and go.
So, we did pack up.
As we got the tent in the car, the weather got better. Go figure.
So we stopped to give some sword lessons to a Mr. Skywalker.

You can’t see his sword here because it is the shot is right down the blade towards my face. Very good photo from [livejournal.com profile] ravena_kade!

Rainbows kept popping in and out, but we never managed to get a photo.

By 5:00 we were on our way back south.

The faire had been scheduled to run until 6, and then we’d have had to pack up. So, that was nice and early. If still soggy.

We stopped at our favorite Chinese restaurant and picked up take out for dinner and then headed home.
They seemed to like my costume there. We’ll see if they mention it again…

I felt much worse for our new guy who was wearing the armor. But, we had warned him about the chance of rain...

Why did you gets get there so early if the first show wasn't until 12:30?

And what's that you are eating? :p

We were only allowed to drive onto the university campus before 9 in the morning. And, the event started at 10, so we need to be there before that.

The mountains are also a very popular place for people to go on weekends. So, we wanted to make sure we left time in case traffic was bad.

My lunch was a beef and vegetable stew served in a bowl made out of a piece of bread.

I've always wondered about stew served in bread! How does it not soak through the bread?

The outer crust blocks it fairly well. I'm sure given enough time it would soak through.
Also, stew is a fairly thick liquid. If it was thinner like water it would probably soak through much quicker.

You must tell the new guy to have his white shirt seemed at the bottom. The threads are showing from way up here and it looks nasty and unprofessional! (to me that is anyway)

Yeah, not super happy about his workboots either but he wasn't clear about how complete a kit he had. :(

The vast majority of them were taken by ravena_kade, so she should get the credit!

Sounds like a great day, even with the rain.

What are you eating in that top picture?

No worries. If I had realized it would be the point of interest it was I wouldn't have captioned it better in the first place!
