My wife and I went to see Jupiter Ascending last night, even though we had read a review on io9 that said: "It's like the sick love-child of Zardoz and Fifth Element."

But having seen it, I don’t think that is really a good view of it’s parentage.

I totally agree that The Fifth Element could be this movie’s mother.

But when The Fifth Element went out and got really drunk, it wasn’t Zardoz that took advantage of it. Maybe Zardoz was in the bar that night, maybe not. But, it was that 80’s version of Dune by David Lynch. That Dune is the movie daddy of this one.

But, the young Fifth Element was not able to keep the movie baby and gave it up for adoption. The couple of 1978’s StarCrash and Highlander II:The Quickening raised it as best they could.

When old enough it found its birth records and decided it wants to be like it’s mom, The Fifth Element. But, never quite manages it.

But, don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t that bad. It’s not Lost in Space…

Lost in space the series, or the movie?

The movie. I saw it for free and still felt cheated...

I was dragged to that movie by a cousin who had a thing for Gary Olman. It had some much promise, but just let you down.

He was also in the Fifth Element... Coincidence?

This is the most unique movie review I have ever read. I want to watch it, but I am willing to wait until it gets to on demand or Netflix.

Hopefully there weren't too many spoilers to ruin it for you...

I think you did a perfect job avoiding those. =)

Well, shitfire and save matches.

Its premise was such a good story hook.

...I was going to expound on how big an idiot someone would have to be to screw up a premise that rich, but I did a search and found out...

*sigh*

...that it was the same folks who did the Matrix movies.

At first I thought you meant Jupiter the planet and I was going to ask if you saw her stripes because apparently they are lovely.

I just looked up the movie though and it's got some pretty terrible reviews. I'm kind of interested in seeing it for giggles now...

It is visually very nice. And, has good actors.
It's just the story that is a bit loose.

Hey! Nothing wrong with Lost in Space! I loved that show when I was younger - always used to watch it when I got home from school :)

Not the TV show. That had some good episodes.
I'm talking about the movie.
I saw it for free and still felt robbed.
