Boxing day at "the museum" and home

Never being much of a sleeper, I got up before dawn on the 26th and enjoyed the view.

Eventually the sun did come up. I was still sitting there when housekeeping came in the clean the room thinking we had left and it was empty.

Having warn our our welcome we ate a nice breakfast there again and headed off.
Having spend much of Wednesday with our cousin

Her mother loaned me some photo albums about our shared grandparent’s families.
As I’ve said before, I grew up with close to zero contact with my father’s family. So, to have letters and photos of people who share my name but I know nothing about is very cool to me.
I have brought the books home to scan some of them under the very clear understanding it is a loan and must be returned.
This caused something of a luggage crisis as we had packed very light for the 54 hours in Florida. But, we managed to get all but the honey we had been given in the bags. The honey would not get through security anyhow, so they are going to mail it to us.
My cousin’s husband has been collecting antiquities for many years and has a collection that rivals some museums I know.
The spot for the coin he got the day before was already prepared.

He seemed to enjoy showing us the collection. And, it is an amazing collection.

He was interested in help to determine more about one object he got in Tibet.

We worked on a Google image search without much luck before finding out that the iPad app just doesn’t support that sort of search.

But, my wife managed it with his desktop computer and he got some information on it.
We spent several hours there, only going off for lunch.

It was a very nice visit.
But, soon we had to head off to the airport.

It had been a very nice, if short, visit. But, my wife and I were ready to have some down time at home too.

The plane back from Florida was no where near as full as the plane to Florida had been. So, we had three seats between us.

It was after dark we took off. But, unlike the flight down it was mostly clear and I could see a lot of lights.

I did spend a lot of time looking out the window.

When we drive down south, we talk about "the nothing". The area in northern North Carolina and Southern Virginia where there just isn’t very much.
You can see it from the air too.
Normal places:

The nothing:

And, NYC:

Of course the lights I like best are the blue runway lights at Logan Airport.

We landed, got in the car and were home by 10:30 at night.

It was a nice trip and a very nice visit with family.
But, I’m happy to be home too!

Date: 2014-12-28 09:21 pm (UTC)I'm glad you had a good visit but you're right - it's nice to be home and just do your own thing too.
When you do have to go back to work?

Date: 2014-12-29 12:05 pm (UTC)I'm sure as time goes on people will fill in that area.
In fact since I started driving through it a few times a year 12 years ago, I've already seen a lot built up there.
But, there is still a long space where no one wants to live right now.

Date: 2014-12-29 03:16 pm (UTC)Ah ok. I thought there might be something geographical that makes this area hard to populate or something.
