Las Vegas Photos part 3

After we got back from the Grand Canyon it was only noon on Saturday. So, after a bit of a rest, we decided to go out on the town.

They would have me believe this looks like New York City…

It looked like a short distance on the map, but our hotel was tough to see and we were hardly there.

Even though this was the "off season" there were a lot of folks there.

You see all sorts there.

It was sad to see Chewbacca begging.

Eventually we got to the "High Roller" a 500 foot/150meter tall wheel.

It has pods you ride around in instead of chairs.

We did have to wonder what they had for emergency supplies…

I liked the bearings they use to make them rotate. And, the drive system was nice too…

You start off only a bit above ground level.

My wife spotted the monorail and declared that was our way home.

It was interesting to see manufactured ice for a ride like we have naturally at home.

As you go up you see a lot of the city.

At the top you’re pretty far up.

When we came down and found the monorail station to go back to the hotel.

There was still a long walk from the station to the hotel.

And, the sun was going down when we got there.

This was the tower where our room was.

We ate at the hotel and got an early rest after a long day.

I woke up just about dawn and watched the mountains to the west of us light up.

But, the moon was still in the sky over the pyramid.

My wife woke up and we checked out of the hotel and set off for more time in Las Vegas.

We stored our stuff in the rental car in the garage.

From the previous days of exploration we learned a bit more about getting around.

And, made it down the strip without as much walking.

We went to the Siegfried and Roy secret garden for dolphins and cats.

We also saw their water treatment plant…

There were a couple of dolphins that didn’t seem very happy.

Sad.
But, off to the strip again for us.

We had a lunch of hot dogs at a hamburger place.

Big burgers, big price.

Although we saw the wheel again, we did not go on it a second time.

I saw the biggest Hooters I’ve ever seen…

Where else can you see the Brooklyn Bridge and Eiffel tower in the same view?

This poster connived us to go to the "Tournament of Kings", but we had to wait a few hours before the show.

We passed the Luxor again to go to the next hotel with an aquarium.

It was a long walk around that hotel. Like .3 miles/.5km just inside the hotel.

But, the aquarium was cool.

And, of course:

As the sun set we headed back to Excalibur.

Not everyone seems to follow signs around Las Vegas.

With all the casinos and such, they did get me to play one game.

I didn’t win any money.
We did find out where minions come from.

Couldn’t take photos at the sword fighting show. Sad.

The bathroom did have some things that didn’t look totally wrong.

My wife and I got into a big debate about which piece of classic art was the basis for this poster.

We made our way back to Luxor one more time to get our rental car.

Then turned in the rental car and took the bus to the airport.

And, said goodbye to Las Vegas.

The plane we got was better than this one.

We saw a man teaching his child to walk by going the wrong way on the moving walkways…

The sun came up for us Monday morning as we were over New York state.

My window froze up a lot.

Which is sad as we passed over my work place at just about the time I normally got there.

Even with all my photo tools, this is the best I can do.
My building is the one two up and a bit left of the water tank in the bottom center.

Soon we were landing in Boston.

I don’t have a lot of trust in the map as it said we were in a different town when parked at the Boston airport.

Then we went to work, the long, busy weekend over.

But, from the door that says "enter here" to where it really begins?
.5km is a long way for that.
