Surprise! It’s a toilet!
Nov. 20th, 2014 09:01 amLast Friday there was a note from the office that manages our apartment.
They said that Monday they were going to come and inspect our apartment, and the others in our building, to see if they could determine the source of the “strange sound” in the plumbing.
My wife and I are not big fans of workfolks in our apartment. We are not good housekeepers, have a lot of stuff, and aren’t big on strangers in general.
But, we have had plumbing problems. Two of the sinks drip and the back toilet was very lazy in its operation.
Since it looked like everyone in our building got the notice, we expected them to concentrate on the kitchen and the main bathroom. The layout of our apartment is such that our bedroom’s bathroom is actually connected to the pipes in the next building. So, if they had trouble with the pipes in our building, it probably wouldn’t include that back bathroom.
We were surprised to come home Monday and find a brand new toilet in our back bathroom. No note, not explanation, just new toilet.
And, the sinks that dripped still dripped.
As I said, that one had been a bit lazy in its flushing and didn’t always do what I hoped it would. So, I don’t mind it being replaced.
We’ve lived there 21 years and this is the first major plumbing fixture we’d had in that time.
I flushed it to see if it worked better, and it did!
Whoosh and away!
That was very nice.
That was Monday night. It never stopped running.
It ran and ran and ran. All Monday night. All Tuesday day. All Tuesday night.
Maybe others find the sound of running water soothing, but it made it difficult for me to sleep. I kept having bathroom related dreams. I was taking a shower. I was using other people’s bathrooms. I was running water out in the kitchen.
I called the office yesterday to see if I could schedule someone to come in at look at it.
I got as far as saying “it never shuts off” when the office manager said “I’ll send someone right up!” and hung up on me.
When we got home yesterday it wasn’t running. It still flushes, and seems to just as well.
So, I guess it’s all good.
I’m not going to call them back about the sinks.
