My little car that I still think of as new hit 50,000 miles today after 2 1/2 years. (It is a not round number of 80,467.2km…)

This year has had my worst and my best milage on the car.

The winter was tough and the car does not like the cold. It drives fine in it. But, lights, wipers, heaters and defrosters all take power and power for that is not power to getting me farther down the road for the same amount of gas.

It is even more jagged if you look at the individual tanks.

I’m sure once the cold really gets going, that black average line will be headed down again.

All in all, I’m still quite happy with my car.
I hope the winter isn’t too bad.

Wow. My car is 19 years old and hasn't yet hit 100,000km. I bought it in 2010 at 58,000, and I think it's now on about 92,000.

It's about 60km each way to work for me. And, we've taken the car on several long trips. So, it adds up.

You've done all those miles in 2.5 years? That's a lot of miles!

Two drives to Kentucky and one to Florida.
Plus more than 100km each day going to work and back.
It adds up fairly quickly.

i think i've told you before that my Honda Civic hybrid does similarly less well on gas mileage in the winter. it was explained to me that since the engine runs hot, it takes a lot longer to warm up and run efficiently in the winter. thus, i have improved my winter gas mileage (slightly) by trying to combine errands and keep engine warm longer. still, it seems your Prius does better in general than this 2006 Honda Civic that i have now (the 2004 got better gas mileage than the 2006, leading me to wonder why the redesign). i'm getting an average of 48 (i think; i just checked, i should remember!) over the last 40K. i'm just over 150K now.

That's quite a lot of driving. My car is 2 1/2 years old as well and I've not even got 22.000 km ...

Lot of miles there. Mine has done about 75000, and is 6 years old.

That's a lotta miles for 2.5 years!
(says the guy with a 5 year old car and 113K miles)

Kinda gives me pause when considering my upcoming Midlife Crisis Car. I have the bad feeling it's going to age mechanically at three times the rate of B's cuz there's no way I'm buying something that gets 17MPG city. Unless the next-gen Taurus drops 5-600 pounds and I'm somehow unable to resist the giggle factor of a 3.7L twin turbo. But I think I can...
