Thursday sword fighting
Sep. 25th, 2014 09:14 pmOur Thursday sword fighting meetings are now at our apartment as we have the least allergens. I guess that’s an advantage of my being allergic to so many things…
After a couple of months we have managed to get through the Liancour manual from 1692.
http://www.umass.edu/renaissance/lord/pdfs/Liancour_1692.pdf
We’ve been using a translation we found on the internet. It was worth every penny we paid for that free manual translation.
Our favorite typo of the evening was the one where instead of saying "Give him your estocade to the body", it says "give him your bestocade to the body.
We’ve decided that our little group should always use the bestocade for everything.
(One of the annoyances with this translation is that they don’t translate some of the sword terms like estocade. So, we’re guessing at some of the moves by context.)

We’ve decided to go back through it again. That way there should be more context for us.
Right?

They are made of steel and we got them from Baltimore Knife and Sword.
Similar ones can be seen on their website here:

Date: 2014-09-27 08:38 pm (UTC)These swords were 5 months late from the promised date.
One of our members has another sword made by them that was sent back for repairs in March and is still not back. And, they won't even answer my messages about when it will be back.
So, good swords.
Not sure I want to buy any more...
