Friday was
Although autumn doesn’t technically start for just over 3 weeks, the trees are already starting to turn.

As it is a three day weekend here, and the "end of summer" lots of folks were headed to New Hampshire.

Lots of cars made the drive take almost an extra hour.

We did eventually get to less crowded roads.

My wife has been trying to get a photo of this carved bear for quite some time. She did manage it this time.

I brought my thermal camera so we could see what was going on when we got there.

Yes, fresh cookies still warm.

Despite the lure of cookies, we headed to the lake.

I had brought the thermal camera specifically to look at the lake.

It is hard to tell the lake temperature due to reflections on the surface of the lake.

But, it is much cooler than my wife.

The sky is apparently very cold as the camera only goes down to freezing.

But, the thermal camera on my phone is not waterproof. So, I switched to the waterproof optical camera.

The water was very clear.

And, we had a good time swimming.

Even Coco seemed to want to swim and play more than normal.

Eventually the birthday boy got back from having his car inspected and we could start his party.

Our friend Gary showed up too!

It’s probably been a dozen years since I’ve seen him. So, it was very nice to see him.
Jeff and his family showed up too, so there were a fair number of folks there.

We had a nice visit with everyone.

Our hosts have three dogs, and Jeff’s family brought two more.
So there was a lot of dog fun too.

It was a very nice afternoon.

Then, for dinner the birthday boy took to the grill.

We moved indoors for dinner.

Everyone loved the 3 bean salad. No really. Even Gary. You can tell…

It was a good meal.

We brought pastries for folks, but some people brought other presents.

Gary drained a tree for that maple syrup. Maybe more than one tree, it wasn’t clear.
And, there was cake with special LED candles.

He also got some bacon.

There was some question about if the bacon had been kept cold enough to be OK. This is just the sort of questions thermal cameras were made to answer.

Yes, it was fine.
There was also a lot of playing with dogs.

At one point everyone had a dog.

Gary had given instructions on assembling his drink.

And, it seemed popular.

Hopefully
