Again with the credit cards
Jun. 23rd, 2008 07:12 pmSo, as you know, a few weeks ago we paid off one of our two visa bills. I told them to cancel the account. They said I had $43.09 in over payment they were going to send me back.
I got a check for $4309.00 instead. I tore it up and threw it away.
Today I get a bill from them saying I had charged $4309 on the account again and I needed to start paying them again.
I called them. I told them they had sent me a check for the wrong amount.
“It’s too bad you threw it out,” the guy on the phone said. “Because we’ve charged that to your account.”
“No, you haven’t,” I said. “I never cashed the check and you aren’t going to charge me for a check you wrote wrong that I didn’t cash.”
“I’ll have to talk to my supervisor about that,” he said.
Musak.
“You’re right , sir, we’ll cancel that check and take it off of your account,” he said.
“Any send me the correct amount back,” I said.
“$243.09,” he said.
“I better have paid you an extra $200,” I said.
“You did, sir,” he said. “We’ll send it right out.”
Now, I am convinced that this was not an accident. They “mistype” a check and some poor slob thinks “They must have owed me more than I thought”. Next thing he knows, back in payments.

Date: 2008-06-24 03:27 am (UTC)then having it show up on their bill a week later). they had also just paid off the debt on the card.. I think that this is indeed a "standard scumbag credit company" practice of doing business.
Bucking Fastards, all of 'em !

Date: 2008-06-24 10:50 pm (UTC)Wow, thanks, I think I might have been totally duped with something like that. I'd hope I'd be able to see that as a screwball, hopefully I'd be in a good mood when I got such a wrong check.
Yet one more reason I refuse to have a full-on credit card. Yeah, means my credit is crap, but better than getting fucked over like that.
