No matter what Google, Mapquest or any of the other route planning resources say about it being 5 hours to or from Millville New Jersey, we don’t seem to be able to make the trip in less than 7.
And, sometimes it is just a luck thing.

Going down there Friday we got through Connecticut and New York without major problems. I was starting to think we would actually make it in less than 7 hours.
Crossing out of New York City into New Jersey is the George Washington Bridge. It has an upper and lower level.
As we got close to the bridge we could see both top and bottom were moving. Bottom faster than the top. But, both clearly moving.
Because getting to the bottom involved driving across three lanes of New York traffic, I decided it was just as well to be on the top deck.
By the time we got there 3 minutes later, it was at a complete standstill.

In those three minutes that it took us to get up the entrance ramp, the police closed all 4 lanes to deal with an accident. It took them 45 minutes to get them open again.
The bottom deck continued to go normally that whole time.
People still on the ramp drove over the median strip and got in the other lane. If we had still been on the ramp I might have done the same thing.

On the way back we checked the traffic on Google. The New Jersey turnpike was stopped.
If you check the Google average traffic on a Sunday afternoon, the average is stopped. So, this wasn’t too much of a surprise.

I tried taking an alternate route that brought us up through the town and university of Princeton.
We didn’t see Einstein, but that’s OK as he’s dead. It had been a long weekend and the last thing we needed was to be chased through Princeton by Zombie Einstein.

That route moved along well with very little traffic. But, the speed limit is half of the major highways, so I’m not sure if it saved us any speed.
And, of course, there was a complete traffic stop in Connecticut.

It does seem very strange to me that the average traffic condition on this road on a Sunday afternoon is “major traffic jam”.
But, this year we got to go to Princeton. Even if we didn’t get a degree.

There would be an irony (albeit a terrible, horrific irony) if some kind of comic-book-like nuclear accident caused
Einstein to become a Zombie Einstein, roaming the earth to satisfy his insatiable hunger for…Uh…I dunno…Physics equations?

This makes me so grateful that I don't live in or near a huge major city with lots of congestion. My hubby knows all the back ways where his parents live in Sevierville (smoky mountains) that we don't usually get caught in the tourist traffic jams there.
