[livejournal.com profile] cissa & [livejournal.com profile] cosmicirony had wanted to have a sausage based dinner with a bunch of folks. But, their cats and dog make it hard for some of us to visit.
So, some friends of theirs offered to host it and that worked out great.

[livejournal.com profile] ravena_kade, [livejournal.com profile] yebo & [livejournal.com profile] zosh were all able to be there and that was very nice.

There were many different types of sausage. The venison was voted by everyone to be the best.

[livejournal.com profile] cosmicirony did most of the grilling even though his back was very bad for him.

The hosts had a very nice tree house.

My wife even went up in, despite her fear of heights.

I didn’t as I wasn’t sure of the main supports.

My wife was recruited to go on spider patrol.

I had a very good time, but did "relax" a lot too.

I’m told I relaxed enough to snore…

We did get home at a reasonable time.

It was a good time. The company and food were both good and we had a really good time!

huh, I didn't realize one could get these types of sausages in the US (though I shouldn't be surprised). Are they seen as fancy, kind of, or maybe specialities? I remember thinking that the Brits have loads more kinds of sausages, and British ex-pats I know have said that they tend to miss British sausages a lot.

It is easy to get several different types. Most markets here would have 6-10 different types.

These were special ordered and made of less common meat. Deer, rabbit, wild boar and similar.
So, they aren't the kind you could find in a normal market.

I got the sampler pack from online vendor D'artagnan, and we added some chicken sausage for more cautious types. :) Dartagnan has pretty good sales sometimes, so it's good to be on their mailing list.

I've got to say, I've never had chicken sausages before, and the idea of it makes me go O_O! It seems like such a strange meat for a sausage!

When made well, chicken sausages are very good. They do need to have a decent amount of fat- I'd say 20%- or else be par-cooked and then quickly broiled/grilled/fried to crisp the outside.

I've had ones with sun-dried tomatoes, ones with chipotle and lime, and several others, and several others. They do tend to be lean, so par-cooking (if they are sold raw), then just a quick sear is the way to go.

I tend to make sure that any sausages to be grilled are par-cooked; that way, no one needs to worry about whether they're 100% done.

Mmm,I love venison sausage but it's very seasonal round here because I get it fresh from a butcher.

Hmmm ... the sausages sound lovely.
You can buy a lot of variety here - I think Germany is famous for sausage, right?
