fbhjr: (Perfect show)

It is Memorial Day here in the US. Many folks have it off from work.
Because my wife and I think it shouldn’t be a big shopping day and folks who work retail should also get it off, we made sure to do all our shopping Saturday and yesterday so we didn’t need to do any today.

That was just as well as my wife was terribly sick this morning. No idea why.
I suspect it was something she ate. And, the only thing she ate that I didn’t was cheese on her pizza for dinner yesterday.
What she went through this morning is very, very similar to what I go through if I eat dairy. So, I’m worried she is picking up my milk problems.

We had not made any plans for the day, so she could just stay home and rest. I did a few loads of laundry while she rested.
When she got better we played a round of "dead or alive" in our refrigerator. I think the bag of old food I carried away must have been 20 pounds (10kg). It was enough to hurt my back doing it.

We mostly watched TV and played WOW.
That isn’t doing much to show appreciation for those folks who have served in the military.
My grandfather was injured in WWI after being in both the Army and the Navy.
My father was in WWII.
One of his cousins was in the merchant marines and had three ships torpedoed out from under him in the north Atlantic by subs.
My mother’s brother was in the Navy for more than 20 years and over in Vietnam.
Her other brother was in the Navy for 5 years as second in command of a sub. He’s never been able to say where he went.
Both of their sons have been in the Navy and one is still in now.
One of my friends in grade school was killed in the Marines.

I do appreciate their service. But, staying home with my sick wife is more important than going to a parade and waving a flag.

You honored them by refusing to support the greed of retailers who opened today.

I hope your wife is feeling a lot better today. You're right - i would have chosen to stay home as well to keep her company.
