Photos of a real fox!

Today the fox was back outside the office.


OK, I admit for a while it hid when everyone stood up in the lunch room and pointed.

But, it’s there. Really. It’s ears are just poking over the edge of the embankment.
As I had not expected a fox appearance I did not have my camera with me. So these are all phone photos. Not as good and no zoom.

OK, how is this? Better?


Someone threw a muffin out the back door earlier in the day. I’m not saying it was me as it is wrong to feed wildlife. I’m just saying that the muffins had the kind of nuts in them that make my gums bleed and once this was found out I didn’t want to eat any more of them.
Foxes are apparently OK with blueberry walnut muffins.

Sometimes it's a bummer that NZ doesn't have mammalian wildlife that isn't an introduced pest. I'd love to have things like this showing up now and then..

I feel bad for the turkeys, but foxes are pretty damn cool, too.

Not that I'm suggesting anything, but a few years ago Ladyhawke had a fox family near her apartment, she managed to get
some amazing (and adorable) photos of the baby foxes by placing a (thawed) freezer bbq chicken burrito on a rock. The kits loved it.

At my parent's there was a fox family that hung out around the corner last year. They were a lot of fun to watch. One day the kits decided
to take over a neighbor's kid's playground for the afternoon. Their German Shepard was losing his mind as he didn't know if he wanted
to play with them or bark/rush at them

Why do walnuts make your gums bleed? Is it an allergic reaction or something?

You shouldn't feed them or they become dependent on it. And if a predatory animal, star to associate humans and food. This can be quite bad with animals like bears.

The gums bleeding is an allergic reaction. I have to eat a lot for it to happen, but avoid it just the same.

When I was little we were at a lodge in Carter Caves and I was thrilled to see a family of silver foxes come to eat scraps from the kitchen. =)

They are nit generally aggressive. But, they are prone to rabies, so it is best to keep away.
