This morning [livejournal.com profile] morgan_lafaye joined us and we drove out to western Massachusetts for the Conbust science fiction convention where we were doing a sword show.
We were going to stop at McDonalds on the way out. But, the rest area we stopped at had a McDonalds eastbound, but not westbound. Sad.

I had to drive through the place my car got whacked last year on the way to the same show: http://fbhjr.livejournal.com/722001.html
It was the first time I’ve been back through there since the accident.
I still think there are two lanes there.

This time we got there OK.

When we got there some of the other folks we know were giving their presentation.

They were using their scythe stand ins to do some of the Mair stuff. (He’s the guy who wrote the sickle stuff we do.)

The online schedule said we would be in the same room for our class. But, the paper schedule and what was written in the room said we were doing it outdoors on the lawn.
But, the lawn still had a lot of snow, ice and mud. So, we did the class on the road in front of the building.

A fair number of people showed up to try.

Most of them used the wooden dowels we had. My wife and I used the real swords.

Over all it went well.

We were asked to demo something else "cool", so [livejournal.com profile] blue_micha and I did our dusack fight. They seemed OK with that.

Sadly, I came away with the show with a wound.

As always seems to happen in Phoenix Swords shows, it had nothing to do with what we were actually doing there.
I reached into the sword bag to pull a dagger out from the bottom and scratched my hand pulling it back out.

But, then we were run off the road by some folks with pikes.

Then, we went over to the Smith College art museum.
It is a very nice museum. They have cool benches.

They do have other art as well…
I like that they give credit to the frames as well as what was in it.

This one is very interesting as the painting was changed from a funeral to a wedding.

But, then it was time to head back home.
