30 years ago flight 007 was shot down over Russia.
The reason it went into forbidden airspace was they had programed the autopilot wrong and it took the direct path to its goal, not the proper path around forbidden space.

My thought is something similar happened to the missing flight 370. I think something went wrong, probably some sort of fire or something on board.
I think they tried to turn around and go back and put a goal into the flight computer.
But, they got the wrong city.
Follow the path from where they were and where they were seen going and 6000 miles later it comes to Cape Town in South Africa.
The plane wasn’t set up for that trip. So, even best case it wouldn’t have made it. And, this wasn’t the best case.

But, that’s what I think happened.
I’m probably wrong.

yeah, I can agree with that conclusion. The world at altitude doesn't look the same out the window as it does on a GPS map or by text coordinates on an MFD.

It's as good a hypothesis as any.

It's really freaky that they can't find it ...

They're not looking in the right place.

So I've read again today - they think it might be in the Indian Ocean .. or at least that's where it flew - it's a mystery

At first I thought you were implying South Africa shot down the plane. Why would they turn off the transponder (assuming it wasn't a malfunction). Or try to use the radio?

This story is so eerie.

Could be, Frank. It's so odd how it's just gone!

I thought of that too... and of the flight that left the US for Paris and was lost.

It makes sense though I've been waiting for the Vile Vortexes/UFO abduction theories to surface,

I've been wondering if they were somehow off course and shot down, too.

My theory - the pilots - or some of the passengers - are HUUUUGE fans of the TV series "LOST", and had to go back to the island to rescue Jack and the others. No one can know the location of the island, so they had to turnoff the transponders and fly under the radar to avoid someone tracking them and finding the location of the hidden island. hopefully they landed OK... they'll probably return somewhere in the US by submarine..

Well now I don't have to make the Lost joke. :P

As good a theory as any. I have been wondering there had been some sort of " military action" taken, ie: shot down.

That's a very viable possibility, though. I hadn't thought along those lines.
