I have to admit that I like watching the Olympics, but some of the things the commentators say seem very strange or less than intelligent to me.
Like:
You get out front and you stay in front. That’s how to win. (Do people need to be told that?)
This is really hard unless you practice a lot. (You think?)
You guys at home are really excited about this. (How do they know?)

I wish there was some way just to watch the feed without them.

Amen. Vacuous commentating is vacuous.

They really should offer a feed that did not include any of the commentator babbling, I completely agree.

I was not expecting to see a Manu icon here! (Though maybe it's sad of me to able to recognize him without seeing his face XD)

I suspect the British commentaries are better, most are done by ex competitors. You may be able to find BBC coverage on the net if you look.

Someone on my friends (friendsfriends?) list was watching from another country, Australia I think, and she commented that it's so much better to watch there because it's mostly just the straight feed and not a bunch of stupid comments like that. I'd like the non-comment version, too.

I really hate those commentators who think they have to say ... stuff like that just for the sake of saying something!

Well, on the first one, there are a number of other ways to win - or at least according to those who calculate race strategies. Like, sit behind the leader and save yourself for a last burst to overtake them. Etc.

So not only do people not need to be told that, they are being told inaccurate stuff.

I'd turn the volume off. Olympic sports are mostly visual, yes?

Many, but not all of the US channel commentators are largely unhelpful, at best. And, we were quite happy to be without Bob Costas for a few days with his pink eye episode. But, I will say that Laura and I both enjoyed watching the skating with Tara Lapinski and Johnny Weir - as former competitive skaters they did add to the program and made useful, educational comments. And, it is now just fun to watch what sort of over the top outfit Johnny is going to wear each day.. He's definitely making his gay fashion statement to Putin and the crowd every day - Go Johnny!

People complain about footie (soccer) commentators, too, haha. But I know for footie, there's often a stadium feed without commentators, so idk if that's an option for the Olympics as well.
