Feeling old

No, it wasn’t getting the AARP card in the mail. It wasn’t baggers at the supermarket asking if I needed help carrying things to my car.

What’s really making me feel old is this Slopestyle skiing at the Olympics.
Skiing on railings? Skiing down the hill backwards?
That’s not how we did it when I was a kid.

Maybe I shouldn’t have given up skiing back in 78.
But, when your instructor is run over by a train while skiing, it makes you think.
And, he wasn’t even going backwards…

Skiing looks fun, but it also looks really scary. I would probably be too scared to go down a wee baby hill.

After the Michael Schumacher thing at the latest I'd have given up skiing ... not that I ever went anyway. Apart from doing a bit of cross country in my teens ...

Yeah that was a horrifying story, (I happen to have been a fan of his when he was racing a few years ago) and then a few weeks ago a friend of mine's son is thought to have had a concussion from skiing recently. I only skied, once. it wasn't infectious.

I am also very curious about the "hit by train while skiing" story.

I like watching the events - they have certainly evolved over what they were a decade or two ago ago, but even then they'd evolved radically from what they were when they started. It does make me feel older too, though.

I still enjoy skiing, but I'm not as daredevil about it as I used to be (nor as quick to get up after a fall). The moguls are also something I now have to get a taste of now and then, but my body cannot handle doing them for long. And, my skis are still pretty long and fairly straight, not like the radically parabolic shape short skis that are the rage for most skiing these days.

Well, time to go put some oil in my lamp and shovel on some coal for my computer... Where's my pet dinosaur gone too...
