Two years ago we did a show at the Gulf Coast Renaissance Faire based on the 7 deadly sins. [livejournal.com profile] pallid_regina & [livejournal.com profile] hms_ennui were a huge part of those shows and made them really, really cool.

We had hoped they could join us again this year and we could do the sin show again.
Sadly they are not going to be able to make it this year. It is sad, but given the way things have been going, I certainly understand their decision.

So, we thought we would cancel the sin show.

However, we had already begun to receive props for it.
And, given what we had worked out for the sin of sloth, folks told me we should go on with the sin show anyhow.

We got these two for lust.

So, even if we don't have sin songs, we'll have puppets.
The show must go on.

[livejournal.com profile] blue_micha brought the work in progress for my wife’s costume and did a test firing for some adjustments.

She also brought her sewing kit. I’ve packed for trips of several days in a smaller bag.

That’s a lot of sewing stuff!

She also redid the hilt of one of my swords.

We did lots of sword practice. Our newest member wasn’t there, so it was mostly the more experienced folks running through their material.

On lookers were impressed.

We are a very modern sword troupe. Members check their choreography on their iPads in the middle of fights.

Of course we’re still left with the age old questions of “can sickles be worn as hats?”

And, “does this make me look like a unicorn?”

Of course we also needed to work with the new swords.
My wife and Blue_micha were doing their Scottish Hope manual.

My wife and I were working on one that is either Italian or French.

It’s got a pretty strange move where your sword ends up in your left hand while you grab the other person with your right.

Everyone was very impressed.

Three more practices…

On another note, this article about mistakes at the BBC has led me to a way to open our shows.

I think that all of our shows are going to have to open with “a moment of violence”.

Did you get a new member because someone else left or someone else joined new as an addition to your group. It's always so great to see these photos - I love that everyone is so dedicated to the craft.

We have no set size for the troupe. Members come and go all the time. I'm not sure there has been a year when we haven't lost or gained someone.

The new member is due to one of our existing members becoming romantically involved with them and getting them to join. While we do have active recruitment every year, this was not due to that.
