Art with flowers

Tonight was the start of the Worcester Art Museum’s annual “flora in winter event”.

As they are fresh flowers, the exhibit is only open 4 days. And, today was the big party to open the exhibit.
They were doing a renaissance theme this year, I guess because of the armor coming over from the closed Higgins Armory Museum.

They did have someone in armor. I guess that’s nice.

I went into work this morning so I could leave early and I actually managed to get home before sunset.

The exhibit opened at 5:30 in the evening and was only open until 8. We tried to get there right at 5:30, and apparently so did everyone else. We ended up parking two streets away as all the parking in the area was full.
They have two different types of display. There are some that are just there to decorate the museum.

They they have some linked to specific art pieces.
This one is linked to the alligator pot behind it.

Many are fairly clearly linked with the subject art.

This one did look like a came to me with the two humps. But, I couldn’t get the base art in the photo due to too many people looking at it.

There were others I couldn’t get very close to as well.

My wife particularly liked this one:

Some, I didn’t see it as much.

This one I didn’t think worked well. The painting is called “A Grand Landscape”.
I didn’t think the flowers really lived up to the grandness of the painting.

This one was supposed to represent the whole room.

It was supposed to look different from each of the three doorways. I didn’t think it really pulled it off, but it was a very cool idea.
They also had a bunch of “renaissance performers” there to entertain.
But, I’m not sure they added much to it.
Maybe because my wife and I run a troupe of renaissance performers ourselves.
But, standing there in costume and a jesters hat starring at people?

Not sure of the point.
The musicians were nice.

Of course, it is an art museum, so look at the benches:

The main part of the party was down on the first floor. Most of the people were there as that is where the bar and the food was.
I found it very ironic that it was all going on under a mural about partying and excess.

As we got ready to leave, I wanted to use the mens room.
This turned out to be a problem as there was a line of women going into it to see what flowers they put in the mens room.

And, they had put flowers in there.

I did convince them I needed to use the room for its intended purpose and had some private time. But, they were knocking on the door before I could get my hands washed.
Having seen it all, my wife and I bundled up to walk back to the car in the 5F/-15C night.

I’m glad we went. And, went the night when there was food and booze to distract people so we could see the art. The next three days will be crazy busy there.
