A tale of two small swords

Last July when my wife and I were in Kentucky for short vacation, we
ordered two small swords during our short visit to the Kentucky Renaissance
Faire.
(http://www.fbhjr.livejournal.com/769749.html if you’re interested...)
They had one there. We wanted two. Rather than take one and wait, we
ordered a pair and asked for them both to be shipped to us when done.
The person taking the order told us we should expect to get them in
September or October at the latest.
When November rolled around and they had not arrived, I started to get a
bit worried. We are on the facebook feed of both the manufacturer and the
reseller of the swords. And, it really looked like they had made ours in
September as planned.
So, I dropped an email to the reseller to see what was up.
After two weeks without an answer, I went to their facebook account and
left a message there.
Two more weeks passed before I sent another email to his boss in Texas.
The week before Christmas I emailed the manufacturer and asked them as I
wasn’t getting any answer from the retail person.
That got an answer. The Texas person called me the next business day and
explained that the swords were lost.
As I understand it, they were built in September as planned. Then, they
were shipped to the person in Kentucky from whom we actually purchased
them. And, that is where the trail ends.
The person who had received the $1000 in swords did not forward them to us
as had been expected, and was not answering phone or email.
The guy from Texas also told me that he didn’t get the emails I had sent
him, only the facebook message. Why that hadn’t been answered was not
addressed.
The good news is they are making us a new pair of swords. I got phone
calls from Texas on every step of the process. Even while we were in
Florida and after we got home.
But, it was six months ago today we ordered them. And, I have to say, I am
disappointed not to yet have them when they were promised in three months
or less.
Hopefully they will be here soon.
Hopefully they will be worth the wait…

Date: 2014-01-06 09:07 pm (UTC)I had bought a bunch of Civil War gear from a fellow a few years ago for an insanely good price, and he said he
got my money order and shipped it. Then the Post Office apparently lost the package.
You eventually got a response and service from your situation. I never got anything from the PO.
I am glad and hopefully you will be getting new swords, but sad/angry they lost the originals.

At least the manufacturer is working with you - which is a good sign.
Hope you get the swords soon. This makes me think of that Book of Lost Swords, again...
