Paladin faire day 2 went better than day 1. It was only one degree cooler
that Saturday, but it was much less humid and there was a much bigger
breeze. So, it felt cooler even if the thermometers didn’t think so.
We decided to do the historical show both shows. It went over well.
When my wife was doing the sword and buckler she described the weapon as
her favorite because it was “short and brutal”. I won’t say which troupe
member said “she likes it because she’s the same way”. (It was not meant
in a bad way. We fight with swords, remember?) She later added “very fast
too”.

Above is us doing the rapier, which is a longer, fast brutal weapon. We
didn’t get any pictures of her with the sword and buckler.

And, to be fair, a lot of the weapons qualify for that.

I can be that way too…

I enjoy their “pillow jousting”. You stand on a balance beam and whack
each other with pillows. It’s mostly kids, but a few adults try as well.
I did take a dive at one point so a guy could win in front of his kids.

The shows went well enough that even the pole arms applauded.

We did get a lot of compliments on the shows. That’s always nice.

Towards evening, the thunderstorms were moving in. So, although the faire
was supposed to stay open until 7, we packed up about 5:30. We actually
managed to get on the road by about 6.
We stopped at a Chinese restaurant before the highway. It is a chain they
have in NJ that is very good. Better than most all you can eat buffet
places. They have a lot of different dumplings, which are my favorite.
One was shaped like a little peach with bean in it.

It was very good, and I wasn’t the only one who thought so.

The trip back was OK. We got stuck in traffic going over the Tappanzee
bridge. But, other than that had a fairly good run through. We did stop
at my traditional rest area in CT, but my fan was not working.

I did buy some Chocolate Skittles while stopped there.
They are everything I expected them to be. I won’t be buying them again.

It was too hot, but other than that a good trip. I had fun. I’m glad we
did the nicer hotel as the swimming and jacuzzi really helped after the hot
Saturday.
